When I think about Cheltenham I think of horse racing and the crowds who make the pilgrimage each year to the Cheltenham Festival.
Now, I have to admit I’m not the biggest horse racing fan but I’ve occasionally watched the festival from afar and soaked up the atmosphere through my television and the excitement that the Gold Cup brings to the masses.
I’ve watched the alcohol flow, Frankie Dettori launch off his stirrups in celebration and all the wonderful colors that the jockey’s silks bring to the spectacle, so it’s fair to say that this is one of the biggest sporting arena’s…. and most famous racecourse’s in Britain, if not the world! and as it happens it’s just a stone’s throw away from the venue that was hosting the Bishop’s Cleeve Fun Day.
Earlier in the summer, we received a call from a member of Bishop’s Cleeve County Council in regards to supplying them with a drum kit for a fun day that they were organising for the town. Our first thought was wow! our marketing team is certainly delivering for us, we seem to be popping up in all areas…. certainly not a bad thing! and we do love a road trip and exploring new area’s so we jumped at the chance to supply them with one of our drum kits for their event.
Set the alarm and don’t forget the coffee!
I had a departure time of 7 am as the kit needed to be there for a 10 am load in, thankfully there were no alarm clock issues and I hit the road on time. As it was August bank holiday…. and early! the M4 was lovely and clear and I navigated my way with a coffee in hand towards Swindon before picking up the A419 towards Cirencester. From then on it, all started to get very rural as I headed down the A417 and A435 before popping out in Cheltenham.
On arrival the organisation was excellent. There were stewards on the gate directing all of the business to their allocated spots and within no time I was parked up right behind the stage….. that doesn’t normally happen!
I met up with the sound engineer for the day who was very friendly and got the drum kit set. The council had requested our Drum Workshop Performance series drum kit for the day which is an excellent choice, it looks pretty cool too with a black diamond finish.
Due to the superb organisation by the council the kit was set up and ready to go shortly after 10:15 so nicely ahead of schedule. I said my goodbyes and went off to explore for the day which was great as I was unfamiliar with the area.
A long but fantastic day.
I arrived back on site as instructed at 7 pm to find that the festivities were drawing to a close. There were only a handful of people still milling around with cuddly toys and balloons in hand that had obviously been won on some of the fairground stools.
A quick check of the kit to make sure things were all ok, which they were and I started to pack the drum kit up. I received many comments whilst doing this complimenting me on the quality of the kit and hardware that I had provided for the day. Getting positive comments is brilliant as you know you have achieved everything that you have set out to do, not just on that day but from your business as a whole.
I was back on the road by 7:30 pm and it wasn’t long before I was greeted by an amazing sunset as I linked back up with the motorway, a perfect way to finish the day!
