Drum Kit Hire With the X Factor!

So come on, own up - who was a fan of ITV’s X Factor?

Ok, I’ll be the first to admit that it wasn’t high on my TV watch list, but I think it’s fair to say that most people had at least heard of the Saturday night TV show…… even if they don’t admit it.

It was watched in our household courtesy of my wife and daughter, so I couldn’t help to get to know some of the contestants and their performances. It produced some characters and one of which I did remember!

“That guy with the huge soul voice”.

One of the contestants I remembered from the show was Kevin Davy White.

I remembered Kevin because of his powerful soul voice, he also belted out some colossal rock classics which are right up my street musically.

Kevin got all the way to the show's final, coming third overall, and was under the guidance of Nicole Scherzinger through the studio process. Although missing out on winning the competition, he was destined to be an artist.

The Scarborough open-air theatre.

Kevin called us to say he needed to hire a drum kit for his show at the Scarborough open-air theatre, where he was to support Westlife on their UK tour.

I thought I’d better get the map out and prepare for the long road trip up north, but he said he would come to our HQ and collect the kit.

I asked him if he needed a specific drum kit being a special gig, but he said to give him something I recommended while getting a nice balance between being cost-effective and sounding great.

It was a no-brainer… I prepared one of our Yamaha Stage Custom for him.

The Yamaha Stage Custom is a drum kit that defies its price and can easily be used in a professional setting.

The Scarborough Open-Air Theatre is a brilliant venue and is slightly more unusual for the UK (probably due to our weather). It features a standing area with seating behind, more of an amphitheater vibe which you see more in America. I think it’s stunning!

The show was a great success and was a complete sell-out.

Kevin was delighted with the drum kit we supplied and commented on how good it sounded - I wasn’t surprised.

The Yamaha Stage Custom is, in our opinion, the best value drum kit around, sturdily built with Yamaha’s trademark quality. This all-birch kit projects while sounding focused and is so easy to tune - all for circa £700.

In a head-to-head, it comes mightily close in sound to their more premium offering - the Recording Custom, which retails at around £3000.

The long drive back south.

The kit was returned to us the following day after a very late night!

Kevin was buzzing the morning after the night before, although he did look rather tired and admitted that some sleep was needed.

We chatted regarding some more potential upcoming shows and projects that he had in the pipeline and said goodbye to one another, and I got the kit stripped down and prepared for its next outing…. wherever that may be.
